Stargazing in Littlehampton, West Sussex
A quieter alternative to Brighton along the same stretch of coast, Littlehampton's long seafront and the open mouth of the Arun give a wide, unobstructed southern horizon over the Channel. The town's glow is modest, so planets, the Moon and bright ISS passes sit in reasonably dark sky to the south, with the South Downs rising just behind the town.

When to look up
Coastal cloud and sea mist are the usual spoilers; the clearest, steadiest nights tend to follow a northerly airflow behind a cold front. The promenade and West Beach give the cleanest sea horizons for catching low planets.
Worth hunting for from here: Orion Nebula (M42) in winter; the Pleiades (M45); Jupiter and Saturn low over the Channel.

Head 15–20 minutes north onto the South Downs above Arundel or Amberley for Bortle 4 skies clear of the coastal towns.
